8 THINGS TO REMEMBER STEPHEN KESHI FOR

This time a year ago, former Super Eagles chief coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi took a bow of the stage of life yet love or hate him the following things make him unforgettable
1 He died on the same day with another Nigerian maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha and the day is June the 8th. Humorously he met General Sani Abacha in 1994 after Nigeria’s victory at Tunisia in the African Cup of Nations
2 He experienced three African Nations Cup finals, in 1994 as a player and skipper of the Super Eagles, in the year 2000 as an assistant coach to Bonfrere Jo and in 2013 as the coach of the Super Eagles
3 He tasted victory at the African Cup of Nations in 1994 as a player and in 2013 as the coach of the same team, the Super Eagles a record he shares Pharaoh’s former coach Mahmoud El-Gohary
4 He qualified two African countries for the World Cup but only lead one of them. He qualified Togo for Germany 2006 but was sacked after the African Nations Cup in Egypt and qualified his nation for Brazil 2014 where he got to the second round
5 He experienced World Cup as player in USA 94 as a player and in Brazil 2014 as coach of the same team he captained twenty years ago
6 He, Steven Gerard and Steven Appiah are three former football captains that share one thing in common, the name Stephen.
7 He remains Nigeria’s second most capped player with 60 caps
8 He remains Nigeria’s only home based coach to have lifted the African Cup of Nations
The Big Boss maybe dead and gone but his legacy lives on, what other fond memories do you have of him?
